Voluntary Resignation Guide
For Full-Time International Faculty Members (Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor)

This guide outlines the required procedures and important considerations for full-time international faculty members who intend to leave the University through voluntary resignation.
Please review each step carefully to ensure a smooth and timely completion of all administrative requirements.

1. Application for Voluntary Resignation
Full-time international faculty members who wish to resign voluntarily for personal reasons must submit an Application for Voluntary Resignation.
The resignation process includes internal approval procedures as well as mandatory government background verification, both of which must be completed before the resignation can be finalized.

[Voluntary Resignation Procedure]
 Preliminary Consultation
Faculty members planning to resign voluntarily must consult in advance with their Department Chair or Dean, taking into account the proposed resignation date and the impact on academic operations.

 Submission of Voluntary Resignation Application
Complete and submit the Faculty Voluntary Resignation Form.

③ Electronic Approval Process
The resignation application will be processed through the electronic approval system in the following order:
Faculty Resignation Form submission → Office of Human Resources → Woosong Foundation

④ Government Background Checks (Approx. 2 Weeks)
Prior to finalizing the voluntary resignation, the University will conduct background verification through the following four (4) national government agencies to confirm the absence of any legal or regulatory issues:
▶ National Police Agency (Korea National Police) – Criminal record verification
▶ Supreme Prosecutors’ Office – Review of criminal case history
▶ Ministry of Justice – Immigration and visa history verification
▶ Ministry of Education or Relevant Government Education Authority – Verification of faculty credentials and employment records

This process is coordinated by the Office of Human Resources, and faculty members may be requested to submit additional documentation if required.

Important:
The voluntary resignation can only be finalized after it is confirmed that no legal or regulatory issues exist based on the results of the government background checks.
If any legal or administrative issues are identified, the resignation process may be delayed or suspended in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Important Notice on Application Timeline
As the government background checks require a minimum of approximately two (2) weeks,
there must be at least two (2) weeks between the voluntary resignation application date and the requested effective resignation date.

If this minimum period is not secured, it may not be possible to complete the resignation process by the requested effective date.

📌 Faculty members are strongly advised to carefully determine their effective resignation date, taking into consideration academic operations, immigration requirements, and the time required for government background checks.

2. Teachers’ Pension (Private School Pension) Procedures
(Applicable to Full-Time Faculty Enrolled in TPS)

Full-time international faculty members enrolled in the Teachers’ Pension Service (TPS) must complete the required pension-related procedures upon voluntary resignation.

Key Information
 - Eligibility for retirement benefits, lump-sum refunds, or pension payments depends on the total contribution period as a full-time faculty member.
 - Faculty members planning to leave Korea should confirm payment methods and overseas remittance options in advance.

Required Action
Open a Hana Bank Easy-One account (if required) and submit a copy of the bankbook.
- Submit the required pension-related documents (bankbook and ARC) by email to:
📧 facultyoffice@wsu.ac.kr

3. Immigration (E-1 Visa) Considerations
Once the voluntary resignation of a full-time international faculty member is finalized, the E-1 (Professor) visa status is no longer valid.

Important Notes
▶ Upon confirmation of the voluntary resignation, the University’s Office of Faculty Affairs / Office of Human Resources will report the change in visa sponsorship status to the Daejeon Immigration Office within fifteen (15) days, in accordance with immigration regulations.
▶ Faculty members must verify the remaining validity period of their current visa and must either change their visa status or depart Korea within the permitted period.
▶ Immigration-related procedures should be completed through the HiKorea website or by visiting the relevant Immigration Office in person.

📌 Failure to complete the required immigration procedures within the permitted period may result in immigration penalties or disadvantages.

4. Faculty Housing Move-Out (If Applicable)
Foreign faculty members residing in university-provided housing must complete the move-out process prior to resignation.

[Procedure]
▶ Notify the housing office of your intended move-out date in advance. (email: housingassistant@woosong.org)
▶ Complete a facility inspection and settle all utility charges.
▶ Return keys and obtain move-out confirmation.

📌 In principle, the move-out date must be scheduled on or before the effective date of resignation.
