Change of Visa Status to E-1 (Professor)
for Foreign Faculty at Woosong University
This page provides information on the change of visa status to E-1 (Professor) for foreign nationals who have been newly appointed as faculty members at Woosong University and are currently residing in Korea under a different visa status.
Visa-related matters are governed by Korean immigration laws and regulations and are subject to change. Final approval is determined by the Korean Immigration Service.
1. Eligibility for Change of Visa Status
If a foreign national is appointed as a faculty member at Woosong University without holding a visa status that permits E-1 (Professor) activities, a change of visa status to E-1 (Professor) is required.
Examples of visa statuses that do not permit E-1 activities include, but are not limited to:
- F-2- F-4
- F-5
- F-6
The change of visa status must be completed before the official appointment date.
2. Application Procedure
1) Preparation of Required DocumentsThe applicant prepares all required documents in accordance with immigration regulations.
2) Submission to the Immigration Office
The applicant submits the application for change of visa status to the local Immigration Office in Korea.
3) Review and Approval
The Korean Immigration Service reviews the application and supporting documents.
4) Completion of Visa Status Change
Upon approval, the applicant’s visa status is changed to E-1 (Professor), and employment duties may commence.
3. Required Documents

- Completed application form (provided by the Immigration Office)
- One passport-size photograph (3.5 × 4.5 cm)
- Passport (original and one photocopy)
- Alien Registration Card (ARC)
- Copy of faculty appointment or employment agreement
- Housing-related documents:
▷ Private housing: Real estate lease agreement
▷ Woosong faculty housing: Housing provision certificate
- Foreigner occupation report form (provided by the Immigration Office)
- Certificate of income
(issuable from the Hometax website)
- Copy of Woosong University business registration
(prepared by the Human Resources Office)
- Certificate of employment plan
- Employment verification letters for previous academic or professional positions
- Highest academic degree diploma
(original for on-site verification or an apostilled copy)
- Minutes of the personnel committee meeting
(prepared by the Human Resources Office)
- Service fee: KRW 130,000
4. Important Notes

The change of visa status must be completed before the official appointment date.

Failure to complete the visa status change in a timely manner may result in the inability to commence employment duties.
